I mean to the amazing Adi Akiva.
So in the end she gives the same class - three times a week and each comes in the day she/he can. I took Mondays, so this evening was the first class. I know the place and have been there before a long time ago and I know it includes few studios. I saw how she dance and it was enough for me to wanna try the workshop. First time that I go learn from her. I knew that she's gonna do it in one level and she warned it's gonna be hard. I told her that I dance few years but I'm not a professional, I apologized if I will pull down the level she meant to give.
In the way up in the stairs I saw someone who I met before in a workshop. She got down and said hello. A moment after she through me - I thought to ask her if she knows in which studio it is. She got downer and I forgot for a moment her name. Till I remembered again - she was far and I didn't wanna shout. Fine, I heard earlier some music from outside. I went after the music. It came from a little studio in the highest floor. There was someone there already, few bags and flamenco music from a system. It's there. I let go my stuff. A moment before I took my clothes for changing - Adi came in. After making sure it's really me - she asked for a permission to kiss (on the cheeks). No problem. I went to change in the dressing room. When I got back - there was someone I know a bit and I knew that she may come and probably won't be pleased to see me. She said hello twice and didn't look please. One of the girls I know through Facebook and I saw before in a show/workshops was there. It was a much bigger pleasure to see her. Few minutes of telling what gonna happen, getting into - how are we gonna do it because we have 6 hours, but next week won't be a class because of... And 6 hours were meant to go on 4 classes. For a try - 2 hours each class. Few minutes before class meant to start. Another one who I used to know for a short time came. She didn't notice me or didn't remember. The one who wasn't pleased to see me said she can do all because of the studio she goes to. Yeah, good joke. Now I had to chance to see how funny it is.
For a start - stretching. Not even a warming. Few minutes of pulling the body, mostly the legs. One more who I know came. One part of stretching Adi said that not all can do and it's painful, so not all should do it. I made a try, but it was a war. While trying to get my legs to the way it was - Adi asked me to give up and go back stretching in the way before.
Ok, moving to legs' work. Another one who I never saw before came to join class. Adi said that this part will take a half an hour, no stops (not even to water) and will do each practice in 3 levels of speed. Whoever can't do the fastest will stay in the middle. I went to drink before it starts. Well, each practice has started slow and clear. Some of the steps were new to me as a combination, but not all. The slow part made it easier to make it fast. Few times I did miss a bit, but most of time I was surprise from myself that I can do it - even the new for me. I was behind. Only one or two were more behind. I was in a way that I could see the mirror and still see the one who can do all. My first laugh was in a basic thing which I do in the classes of Neta. It's a bit confusing one - but it's the only hard thing about it. She couldn't make it although she can do all and the studio she goes to... Few times that Adi pulled her hands up for showing which speed it's gonna be - she pulled up a hand too. All of us understood the meaning, but she didn't. Near the end of this part was a practice which was mostly for balance. That was the hardest thing for me. Maybe accept I started to sweat like a horse. Even in the hardest classes of Neta I didn't sweat like this. Sorry for giving you this information, it was mostly to tell how much energy this part took. Once Adi moved between all of us for seeing from close how do we do it. Others got fixings, I didn't. I'm not sure if it was because I made it good or because she was sorry for me as a non-pro who came to her in the first time.
Because it's two hours class and this part was difficult - we had a little brake. Some sat down. I was a bit afraid tp join the sitting for it could be hard to get up. I found a place that I felt some breeze from outside and chilled out. After chilling - I joined the sitting after all. It took less than a minute till we had to get up to move on.
We started to work on circles. This part remind me the ordinary classes that I take on Tuesdays. It started in circles in the place, basic thing. Once or twice I took too much energy, but I made it better than some others. The one who can do all just stood and looked for a while till she said that she don't get it - Adi said it's basic (and it was basic). She thought it will be... And she showed something complicated. Adi told her it's like the Farrucos, but it isn't basic. One more kind. The one who can do all was the last one to understand. Even when all others made it she didn't understand. She stopped us to practice it again and she still couldn't understand.
Then - all around in the most basic way. Each alone, we must give one beat between the other till we start. One that I know was first. She made it good but not perfect. The second was the one I met in the stairs. She suppose to be in a higher level than me - she's almost a pro even if she doesn't mean to. Still in each try of hers she missed balance and started to miss the line. She's been asked where does she go. She didn't have the answer. Me? I was the third to try each turn. For me - Adi said "Bien! Bien! Bien!" (Good! Good! Good!). When I got closer to her I noticed that was looking like she didn't think it would happen, but liked the surprise. For me it was clear I can do it. I practice it every week in the studio of Neta. Others didn't make it well. The one I know through Facebook gave up after once or twice and didn't accept to try again although all of made it 4-5 times. The one who can do all made it horrible. Just circles and she can't do it....!
One girl took the little brake for pulling herself on the floor - all her body and her head. Some others sat down. The girl I know through Facebook sat on the floor. She joined the part of sleeping on the floor a moment before the brake was over. I stood near the breeze.
After this part Adi told us about her learning and teaching. She said that circles are the most basic thing in flamenco, but also the hardest thing. She went to classes of technique for the body, it was hard but fine. She went to classes of technique for the legs, it was hard but she made it. She went to classes of only making circles. After that - "leave me alone! I don't want to dance again in my life!".
Almost the end. As far as the palo she teach in the workshop is siguiryia we learned some steps which can take a part in a siguiryia. One of the girls didn't know this palo before, so for her we made a practice with palmas on the beat. Then learning a start of a dance. I'm not sure that I made all perfect. Still it felt great. I still made it in a level which made me a surprise that I can dance in this level. The girl I know through Facebook asked something. She had a little mistake, but Adi liked it (after all - it still looked good). She said we can do the siguiryia a bit different than she teach us and give it other versions - as long as we go one dancing and do it in a way which doesn't look like mistake.
After a bit more practice - the class was over. We have been given even few minutes over. Adi asked how was it for us after two hours. Someone mumbled. I was the only one who said a clear answer. I said loud it was cool. Yeah, it was a bit hard for me and with a new teacher for me. Still I meant it. I was awake and love the idea I danced in such level. I loved the part of circles and to see that I make the all around better than all in this class - includes girls who suppose to be in a higher level than me. I still could stand up. And after all years I learn with taking workshops as a bonus, saw some teachers - I can say it was enough for me to understand that Adi is a great teacher. She also seem like a gentle person (in the good way). The one who can do all said she isn't sure if she will go on cause isn't used to this style. I changed in the studio. Some looked on me a bit weird. I don't mind. I thanked Adi for the class and told her that liked the fact it was hard. And said goodbye. I'm waiting for next time
