After watching Luna y Media
Finally I went to see "Luna y Media" of Compas Company. It's a show that have started at 2003. For years it wasn't on stage, recently it came back in a new edition. Finally I went to see it, third evening with this edition. Took me few days till I started writing about it because of few reasons (let's NOT get into it).
So, this version including:
Dance: Mijal Natan (of course), Ayelet Shachar, Moran Ron, Orna Gratz, Ivelisse Gonzalez and Maya Palenbaum. Talia Kliger joined Compas Company, at least for this production. Gaia Liberman Contini was taken a part in non official shows of Compas Company before, now she's a part in an official production. There was a dancer who joined the company for this show, her name is Noa Ayal. Twice she got on stage with this, but she's in Seville now. It isn't sure when she will be back. Instead of her joined a dancer that her name is Emanuel Zdaka. Emanuel took a part from time to time at productions for kids of Compas Company. Now she replace Noa Ayal in a "regular" production.

The show itself:
Well, it isn't an ordinary show. Some of the parts are pure flamenco, but it including many parts with some other dancing styles that get mixed with the flamenco. It starts with taking on flamenco shoes by Moran Ron (a thing that a bit return on itself on shows of Compas Company, but I guess it's something that becomes their own). The lights on on Mijal Natan after that. And there is a thing with the hair of Talia Kliger and Gaia Liberman Contini. The hair thing returns on itself in few versions at the show, and not only by them. I'm not sure that I have the right words to tell about that thing. And there is Yehuda Goldin that his part at the show is mostly to change things that could be scenery and respond the dancers.
There is a dance which is much more modern style than flamenco. It's a very surrealistic part. Because it so close to look like a dream that I didn't even care it isn't real flamenco. The dancers where with masks on their faces all over this part. Even me who knows all of them - it was difficult for me to recognize them. It started with one dancer who comes with a "bath" of smoke. The "bath" has been placed in the middle of the stage, a bit by bit the dance of all dancers was around it. After a while - few dancers went to the audience and picked up few of the audience. The dancers made the audience to dance with them. Two dancers stayed on stage and made the same movements. It looked THAT good till it took me a little while to notice one more thing... Gaia and Emanuel who joined for this production were two of the "audience" who picked up to dance with them.
There was a dance of pure flamenco. A thing of a happy wedding with all the young dancers, in the front of it was Mijal as a widow. It was a very interesting. The meanning was so clear.
About the dancers: most of them I already know that they are great dancers. This time I noticed a lot to Gaia and Emanuel. I know Gaia from my former studio. Till now I saw her dancing only at both studios during classes and at end of year shows. The end of year shows - at the former studio. Now I know that she really have a stage personallity and she's getting better. Emanuel I saw even less till now - only during classes at this studio of Mijal. I knew that she's good and I wasn't surprised that she was taken for it. At this show, at least at her first time - there were few moments that she looked a bit immaturity, but most of time she did her job really beautiful. At few photos from the show I've seen a ballet dancer and couldn't recognize who she was. Well, the last dance including it. Ivelisse was dancing ballet while the others danced flamenco. It wasn't in a level of the big masterpieces, but it wasn't easy. I was amazed that she can do also ballet like it's a normal thing to do. I know that she's dancing few more styles accept flamenco, I didn't know that also ballet.
In the end there is also a thing with shoes. All dancers accept Ivelisse who was wearing the ballet clothes

Here we go again
OK, I didn't see the show "David and Bat Sheva" since February. One of the shows of Compas Company and Miguel Angel. So Mijal Natan brought Miguel Angel to Israel again for it. After one evening at Jerusalem the show was at Giva'taim. This time - no Tel Aviv. Giva'taim is close enough, but it's been a long time since I was at city theater there and never been at backstage there. Of course it's important to be at the backstage. I was a bit stressed about it, but.... A little bit before the show has started sat next to me a woman who I know through Miguel's workshops. I think that she's a little weird, but the fact we know each other and she also knows Miguel and Mijal made it easy planning to look with her the backstage after the show. It made the stress a little meaningless.
The show itself... I think that I lost counting the times that I saw it before. But the audience... Many weirdos. I won't tell too much about the smell that has started. A person has been moved out. At the brake the hall has been cleaned a bit because..... I hope that the people on stage didn't see it. As far as I know the show and I know Miguel, the fact that I know that last week he had pains I had my thoughts that he's dancing with pains at his body. Ayelet Shachar was ill and because of it at Jerusalem she had a replacement. Now she had no choice, she's been told that without her it ruin the balance of the show. After the show at the backstage I heard from both of them that they are getting better but still not on their best. About Ayelet I can't tell accept she did look better. About Miguel - I guess that people who doesn't know him and the show didn't notice a thing. The woman who I got into backstage was hurry and felt like she can take me home by the way (a taxi for both of us), so not much time. We didn't see Mijal. I had my jokes with Ilan as usual. And the traditional photo of backstage. I met there Andrey who also came to see the show. He took the photo of mine with Miguel and Ilan. Even more than one, but it looks very similar. On the way out - Orna Gratz was telling people that it's my 80 time that I see it. Yeah, something like that.... And I can see it again

After watching the 20 years celebration
The Israeli flamenco company - Compas Company was celebrating 20 years of activity on stages with 20 different shows. Some of their shows included the company, some included dancers from outside. Few of the outsiders are Israeli dancers from different kinds of dance, most of times with flamenco dancers made in Spain. Some of the shows has been made with the dancer Miguel Angel - a dancer that work with them a lot, mostly with the artistic manager and main dancer of the company - Mijal Natan. For telling all truth - when I started dancing I had a different teacher. One of the reasons that I moved to another studio and was choosing learning from Mijal Natan was watching this company so many times before on stage. I had the chance to start knowing her personally, a thing that made me want learning from her even more. Through Facebook and her work with Miguel Angel - I had the chance to know personally also Miguel. She became my steady teacher who I adore, he became a close friend and every time he's in Israel - he's bonus teacher of mine.
I want to write more about the celebration of 20 years of Compas Company more than I want to write about my personal connections. It's a little difficult to make the separation at this case, but I'll do my best.
For twenty years on stage - Compas Company made a special show. It was twice on stage (so far) with few dances from few different shows. This time - only company's dancers, but with the choreography of two dancers from Spain at two different parts. One was a farruca that Mijal Natan was dancing at this show and at a former show - "Pavo Real". The choreography made for her by Miguel Angel a part of "Pavo Real" - one of their shows together. Another dance was before a part of the show "Agua Dulce". The choreography made by Hugo David Alvarez. By the original version it included the dancers Vlada Vest and Hadas Nestel. This time Vlada wasn't dancing at all at the company. There was no replacement for her at this dance. The part of Hadas Nestel - at this show Guerau Cabrera was dancing her part. It was interesting to see it. They both have a different style of dance and movement, and this is before reminding the fact this it was taking out a woman and putting a man instead.
So, this show included some recorded music, some with live music. when it was live music - the musicians were: Yehiel Hason (guitar), Ofir Ataer (sing) and Rali Rali Margalit (cello).

The steady company of these days made from Ayelet Shachar, Moran Ron, Guerau Cabrera, Lia Sheinfeld and Maya Shani Palenbaum. Ilan still not steady, but I guess he will be. About Maya Shani Palenbaum - she still pretty new, so I guess this is the reason that she took a part only in few dances. For this show - came to perform two dancers from the past: Adi Grupper who took a part till quit recently and I have met her at the studio and at the backstage more than once. And Mor Zilberman who took a part at the company for years, I've seen her on stage many times, but she left before I've started to learn at the studio of Mijal, I never knew her personally and I don't really know what happened with her since. Orna Gratz who took a part at the company for years and now he takes a part mostly at the show "David and Bat Sheva" with Miguel Angel, but go on dancing - most of time she do on her private time in the studio for her own soul took a part at this show as well, but from backstage. She was the show manager this time.
So, the show made from some past shows. Mor Zilberman was on stage for a long time, although she isn't at the company for a long time. She probably still dance somewhere. It looks like that time didn't touch her. Still every movement of hers was correct with the technique. Not only that - something about the way she moves on stage still looks like a real dancer who don't think of technique only. It was amazing looking at her. Her stage personality touched my heart. Near the end there was a moment that I looked a lot on her face (I was close enough as I love) - it looked like that in this moment she's close to tears. For me it was good enough to decide that the dancing comes to her from an inner thing that makes her so good. About Maya Shani Palenbaum.... It was a bit hard for me. Her movement can look like correct and she loves dancing. I know that she was a ballet teacher. Still.... She's from another kind of dancing, made a big brake from life for being a full time mother and got back dancing a little bit before I moved to Mijal's studio. She's four years at flamenco after years of not dancing at all. And at some workshops we made together - teachers asked her to take care for pulling up shoulders. A little bit makes me jealous and think of "why not me". She took a part at the start of the show and still was OK, but I didn't feel anything from her dancing. At the end she got back to one dance. In a way - I hope it isn't only at my head - I think she missed few moments and she had to look on the other girls.
That was a show of a little bit more than an hour. Many of the dances I've seen before, some even more than once. It didn't disturb me to be moved from watching it. Accept the newest dancer at the company who looked to me too mechanical - all on stage looked so glamorous. Watching the bit of all together, the mix of all the dances together just worked. The mix with that order made it a full show that could stand on it's own even without the contacts around it.
At the end - Mijal Natan made something that she usually don't do. She was talking. She told about the start of this company and introduced the people on stage. Well, the fact it included two past dancers was a moment of reminding the past of this company by people and not only by the dances.
For the special show and moment - all on stage received some flowers.
As far as many of them are friends or some kind of friends - I came to backstage to say hello and tell them that I enjoyed watching it

After watching Snow White from the audience
Snow White and Seven Dwarfs (version of Compas Company) has been Saturday morning at Suzanne Dellal, Tel Aviv. This time I wasn't needed. I convinced my sister it's time that her daughter will see it. So I ordered tickets to three of us. Already no many tickets left at normal places.
Rainy day, doesn't fit for April at Tel Aviv.... Came a lot before time, mostly when we're talking about coming with a 4.5 years old kid. She was happy. When we got into the hall between the first people at the audience we could hear the dancers practice and getting warm on stage. It made my niece more excited. For me it was weird to come to see a flamenco show and instead of meeting people that I know - the hall is getting filled with kids and their parents. Oh, one person I did know, but he was at the other side of the hall, I was with my niece and sister, I'm not sure if he remembers me, so... Didn't feel like getting up for it.
The show itself.... I was thrilled from many reasons myself, but it was a bit weird. Let's start with the weird thing:
It isn't a pure show of flamenco only. Half of it is a play. I saw before flamenco versions for theatre plays or ways to make a theatre by telling a story by flamenco. Those version based on flamenco only. Till now - for adults. Really, who will take kids to see Blood Wedding, David and Bat Sheva or Lady of the Camellias? I mean - normal people and not crazy people like me. And this is a play with flamenco made for kids. I'm not a kid but I came to see.
I was thrilled because my niece was a great reason for trying and check it out, and hey - it's still includes flamenco! And after all - I do know the fellows on stage, most in person. I took a part of this show last time, now I finally had a chance to see all that happened on stage. Last time I couldn't do it. A part of time I was behind the stage, at another parts I needed to pretend that I'm sleeping. All of it before we remind that some parts has been changed at the last moment when I took a part - just for I could fit in without any rehearsal.
Few changes at the people on stage. Of course Ayelet Shachar as Snow White as she does for years. Mijal Natan as the bad witch as she always at this show/play. The prince - when I took a part was a man that I never met before. Even after taking a part - I still don't know who he was. I guess that he's been taken when the show/play is in Arabic as we did then. He speaks the language well. This time was a guy who I met few days earlier at the studio, looked familiar and probably I saw him before on stage. Now I know that the familiar guy who was the prince this time is Eran Franco. When I took a part at the show I wasn't really aware to the way the prince was. About Eran Franco I know now that he do it cute with a charm. With all my love to flamenco - I know that "cute" doesn't really fit, but there are times that this word is needed. This time it fits. Yael from the destine is abroad, so her part has been taken. I guess I'm not mistaken, cause I remember who was last time, I remember my part and as I remember - I'm not mistaken about the parts that others did. So instead of Yael of destine was Orna Gratz. Possible that she took a part at this show years ago when it started. Again - I didn't see it before. It started to "run" even before I started to write. When I took a part at the show - Yael Tuchfeld was in a visit at Israel, so I had the luck and honor to perform with her. Never mind that was a part it turned out a bit crazy. As far as I know - she also was at the original cast of Snow White. Now she's at Seville again. Hadas Nestel who didn't dance for too long because of health was dancing this dwarf. The weirdest thing for me about the fellows on stage was about seeing who was dancing "my" dwarf, the sleepy one. Mor Zilberman was dancing this part. She didn't dance for a long time, not at this company and not even at the studio. I never met her at workshops, so I know her only on stage from a long time ago. Nothing personally. And as far as I know - she's the original Snow White at this show.
And now I really saw it. Of course that I know the story since I was a kid, but this time I could see this version. I could see all of it and notice the way it meant to be. I was a bit sorry that I couldn't do it this way. I can't really complain, after all because of me was a one time show that looked a bit different. Although I needed mostly to be there without really dance - I had the chance to act. I've been told I made it well. My sister asked me if I didn't dance as they did because I couldn't. No better way to let down. Just more questions like this please! I'm waiting! I couldn't do it from the reason I didn't see the show before and didn't have a real rehearsal. My rehearsal was less than an hour before the show and was mostly for I could know my entrances. Now when I saw the show from the audience I was wondering if I really couldn't do it. The parts of the dwarfs looked like something I could dance if I had enough time to practice.
My niece was watching it in silence. The only times she wasn't this way were at one point that she wanted to understand better, another time when she asked to sit on my sister's knees. Although my niece loves dancing she didn't want to do so at the little kids' workshop at the end of show. I have few photos from this part. I apologize for the quality of the photos. Has been taken through the mobile phone and I still not used to take photos at situations like this one.

The weirdest thing for me about the fellows on stage was about seeing who was dancing "my" dwarf, the sleepy one. Mor Zilberman was dancing this part. She didn't dance for a long time, not at this company and not even at the studio. I never met her at workshops, so I know her only on stage from a long time ago. Nothing personally. And as far as I know - she's the original Snow White at this show.
And now I really saw it. Of course that I know the story since I was a kid, but this time I could see this version. I could see all of it and notice the way it meant to be. I was a bit sorry that I couldn't do it this way. I can't really complain, after all because of me was a one time show that looked a bit different. Although I needed mostly to be there without really dance - I had the chance to act. I've been told I made it well. My sister asked me if I didn't dance as they did because I couldn't. No better way to let down. Just more questions like this please! I'm waiting! I couldn't do it from the reason I didn't see the show before and didn't have a real rehearsal. My rehearsal was less than an hour before the show and was mostly for I could know my entrances. Now when I saw the show from the audience I was wondering if I really couldn't do it. The parts of the dwarfs looked like something I could dance if I had enough time to practice.
My niece was watching it in silence. The only times she wasn't this way were at one point that she wanted to understand better, another time when she asked to sit on my sister's knees. Although my niece loves dancing she didn't want to do so at the little kids' workshop at the end of show. I have few photos from this part. I apologize for the quality of the photos. Has been taken through the mobile phone and I still not used to take photos at situations like this one.
It was possible again to have some photos of the kids with the characters from the show. This time they didn't wait on the stage for it. After this part they got out to have some photos with the kids at the broad next to the hall. My niece was looking for them. She was curious when she saw them going outside from the artists' door. At the moment that me and my sister told her that she can have some photos with them - my niece became shy. She didn't want to. Not with Snow White, not with the dwarfs, not with the witch. My sister offered her that I'll be with her and both of us will be at the photos. I made a try to talk with the girls. It was difficult to reach them because of the many kids who didn't have a problem to have photos like this. After a while I made a little talk with Ayelet. After that a real conversation with Mijal. All went to change, but Ayelet and Hadas stayed. I was there and both of them were happy to talk with me. Well, until it has started to be too cold for them outside.
After that three of us - my niece, my sister and me went for lunch at my parents'. My mother asked my niece how did she enjoy it. My niece said:
"Snow White ate from the apple, she died, and then her boyfriend gave her a kiss, and then she woke up. Who didn't see the play Snow White? You didn't see? Go to see it next time!"
