The main show, Días de flamenco 2013

Well, I take too much time to write about it.

Came there less people that I know and came some that it was clear they came to see David Broza. Couple who came for David Broza sat next to me. I think it was the first time they saw a man who dance flamenco. This and the way they looks like... No other reasons for the way they reacted when Juan de Juan was on stage. 

It started with Juan de Juan. who danced alone with no music. There was a little light on the stage itself. It was a short part and amazing. With his talent and this light it had an affect of mystery. I could enjoy it more if the couple next to me could shut up. It was with no respect of them - I was afraid that Juan de Juan hear them, and the fact that I heard them for sure....

After that - Niño Josele and Piraña got to stage. They made two parts. It had a great sound. Still, near the end of this part I found out that behind me there are more people who came for David Broza. They came with a child. I heard the child ask loud where is David. They told her to keep on silence. At least she listened to this. 

Juan de Juan got back to stage. He made another part, this time with the music of Niño Josele and El Piraña. One more great part. I started to wonder why didn't the workshop in the morning didn't look this way. 

Juan de Juan took off stage. David Broza came to the stage. Some others were really happy. I don't have anything against him, but I never was crazy for him. And this is before reminding that although his music has influence from Spain - he never made flamenco before. He play a guitar and sings. For a start - he only played his guitar. A full instruments part. I was surprised that he could fit himself in this part to the pure flamenco of Niño Josele and El Piraña.

After that - David Broza forgot he isn't in an ordinary show of his. He the audience who are the musicians (yeah, it was for those who came for him - unlike for those who normally come to this place to see flamenco). He had to say the Niño Josele is on the guitar and Piraña is on the percussion. He also said "Juan de Juan". In this part he didn't say what does he do. Juan de Juan came back to stage with calling his name. He sat in a chair that was there near David Broza. He started dancing. One more amazing part of him. After a while - David Broza was talking in a musical way in the back. It a bit remind me horror movies, but that was pretty cool. 

Next part was a too long [art of making songs of David Broza in a flamenco way. The first song was one that I hate. It was still in Hebrew although the flamenco music. And a song which I do love came after that, still in Hebrew. Juan de Juan came back to stage, danced a bit, David Broza started to sing in a weird accent, and when Juan de Juan made the salida - David Broza started to sing in Arabic. It was an interesting twist. Still, this song and this part of dancing was too short. The songs of David Broza with no dancing. Next song was in a version made in Spanish. Although it's his song - I already heard before a flamenco version in Spanish made by another. And few more songs and back to Hebrew. And again he made a try to say something between the songs and nothing came out of it. This part was hard and long for me.

When those songs were finally over - David Broza took off his guitar and let it on his chair. He stood in the middle of stage. Someone near me asked id now he's about to dance. I don't know if it was a real thing or that the question has been asked THAT loud. David Broza made few steps. It only showed that he shouldn't fight with Juan de Juan about who's the real dancer there. His steps were hardly in a beginners' level. Ok, after this joke - he started to sing in a-cappella style. It was a nice song of him which did sound good this way. Juan de Juan got back to stage and danced near David Broza. He's killing me! It was so beautiful. Some of the time David Broza sang in this part and some of the time he just stood there and looked. Niño Josele ans El Piraña Joined them after a while. There was a new part to the sing itself. The whole thing was great, but could be better. The problem was that for a person who learn flamenco and saw a lot of flamenco outside classes too - I could notice how much David Broza isn't used to sing for dancers. It was too clear he is a singer, but not a flamenco style. Few times he missed and started sinning when Juan de Juan didn't finish the parts that called the singer to start sinning. And there was a part that Juan de Juan took David Broza in a way it was clear that it's for a salida of both of them. I mean - for me it was clear. The guy who sat next to me thought it's funny cause it's first time he see flamenco dancer (and I'm not sure how much brain this guy has in his head). 

So, that's it. Juan de Juan danced a bit more as fin la fiesta. None of the others made a try. 

In the bottom line: Juan de Juan is a wonderful dancer and I love seeing him on stage. El Piaña and Niño Josele made a great job as well, although I didn't give them enough attention. It was mostly because in the parts with Juan de Juan - that was the main thing in my eyes and he was THAT amazing in each moment on stage. About David Broza... I could give up on most of the things he did there. I did give him attention because of the mess it made here with the community of flamenco lovers

One more week at Suzanne

Next Thursday at Suzanne Dellal, Tel Aviv will start Días de Flamenco 2013. 3 days of pure flamenco. Well, almost pure. In the main show this year it will include 3 pure flamencos from Spain - Juan de Juan, Niño Josele and El Piraña. With them on the same stage in the same show will take a part the guitar player/singer David Broza. He makes a lot of music in a Spanish style, but he never was a flamenco artist. I hope that the pure flamencos will drag it to a real pure thing. 

And of course - as every year it will include a workshop at Friday morning. I know it's full booked now, but I'm glad to say that I'm one of those who filled the book. As far as Juan de Juan is the dancer who comes this year from Spain - he will give the workshop.  

As it's always - Saturday morning will be full in flamenco made in Israel. Once in two year - there is also a contest. This year will be contest. The last part will be in the gala - last evening, last time of the main show in the festival will include the last ones who can make it and get the first place (and some learning through Adi Foundation who makes this party every year).

Next Friday I would spend some hours at Suzanne Dellal (I will see the main show at Friday evening). A bit afraid, but I do aware that I must go there. I'm a bit afraid cause I never learned from him and I still don't know if it's for me, and the fact the main show includes an Israeli man that I can only hope that will make it flamenco. Still I'm sure I'l be angry for myself if I won't go. As I saw videos - Juan de Juan have a great chance to get into my getting longer list of flamencos that I REALLY love, so I can't miss him if he comes. And this festival is a thing that I found myself wait for every year, and enjoy it every year - no matter who comes. Now - second time since I started to write La Reina De La Luna + that I could write about this festival in real time and not a years after it happened. 

Maybe it's......

I wasn't sure if I get it right. I usually don't have a problem to understand things, but.... This time it was a very weird and confused thing to say, and it was possible to understand two different things from that. About Juan de Juan in Días de Flamenco. The message was about "sold out". Well, someone asked in public about a ticket to the show. As the answer she received was about possible to day and hour - it will be in different 3 nights. So, Maybe it's still possible to get tickets to the show of Juan de Juan/Niño Josele/El Piraña/David Broza. I guess now that the "sold out" was for the workshop of Juan de Juan

About Dias de Flamenco

There was something a bit confused about it.... I know that the workshops in Días de Flamenco filled very fast. Last year I hardly got my place in the last moment and I know that some found out that there is no more place for them. This year I was probably the first one who got a place (or at least - one of the first ones). I still not sure if it's a good idea this year, but I can't help myself from running to it.

And now.... The way it has been told...... Almost there - I made a mistake because of the short month which end today. It won't be in 3 more weeks, it will be two more weeks. Eva Agmon (the manager of this party) that it has been sold out. I think she meant to the show cause she said also about El Piraña, Niño Josele and David Broza who won't give the workshop. Only the dancers gives it every year, and this year it will be Juan de Juan

I'm ready for the festival

That's it! After I made a call for inviting a ticket to the main show - I received an e-mail. My payment for the workshop of Juan de Juan in Días de Flamenco has arrived where it was meant to. I'm signed. Next month at Suzanne Dellal in Tel Aviv. I love those things...! And sorry... What I have in bigger doesn't fit uploading to the internet. I'll see if I can fix it. Till then - I hope it's clear enough:

A bit less than a month to the festival

One more month and a day

Already get ready to the end

That's getting too weird. Once again getting in the last moment. The girl from Haifa was in  a middle of a practice outside with the "ballerina". One of the daughters of Neta got out from the studio. I wasn't sure if she already recognize me or not. She does and she said hello. The fat woman still don't know how to use her hat, but she does know to use their phone. When the medium level class was over - she started to talk on the phone before she got out the studio. 

Meanwhile - my friend and the nice one came. My friend said she isn't sure if she will make a part in the end of year show. She will be in end of July in the USA and she's afraid she won't be ready enough. Neta said that soon we will start to make the standings and we'll see how to make rehearsals in a way my friend will be ready. I asked if we already have a date. Neta and my friend said that "sure we have". How come that I'm the last one to know those things? It was for getting Shuky for sure. It will take a part at Suzanne Dellal this year for the second time, and they gave two dates as options. 

Our class has started and I still didn't finish to inform my friend about one of the workshops - the one that I know she wants (of Maria Juncal). We've been asked to keep on silence. 

A short hands' warming and a long legs' warming. I came sleepy again, but this time I forgot it fast. And a practice on some of the legs parts in our alegria. Some I forgot in the start, but after a short reminding - I started to enjoy. Some of the hardest steps for me in those parts become easier for me. 

And dancing all we have. Twice. Few things still need some work with the manton. And no much space.... Clearly the end of year is in the air..... It's the only reason for I won't have any space to move. In the end of second time Neta said something about a manton in the back. The mantons of the kido and the daughter of the snobbish woman got stuck together. They both laughed (mostly the kido) and each one of them pulled her own manton to her side. Neta said that we didn't see it happen, but it was pretty early and she saw them pull their mantons and we keep on dancing. None of up could help it and laugh too. The comedy of the evening.

And learning some new steps for our alegria. The "ballerina" feel the end as well. She just heard "new steps" and the fact we're getting ready to the end - she got out from nowhere too be too much near me like I have to sit in the side and watch her "beauty". I don't accept to move for her. She accepted to move her hands a bit after I did move mine to where it had to. One thing Neta fixed me (a rare thing in those classes). The "ballerina" had to take a stand like Neta talks to her and I'm not there. 

Few more steps. Neta showed us, so the "ballerina" had to be between me and Neta. I couldn't see anything from the new steps cause the "ballerina" thought that it's more important I'lss see her move from one point to another. I stood next to her for I would be able to see Neta and the new steps instead. The "ballerina" wasn't pleased. I don't give a damn. I'm there to learn and I want to be ready for end of year, so I don't give a damn if the "ballerina" likes it or not.

Not much after while a practice - the "ballerina" finally figured out that I'm not gonna guve up my space and I'll dance the best that I can on it, and if she's there - she's the one who have to be careful. So she found another spot which looked a little more empty from people. After a while of practice the new steps - Neta made a video of us. 

End of class. Few more talks about the workshop. And I told my friend about what's gonna be in Días de Flamenco this year and when it's gonna be. About those things - I usually know before her. Any case - My friend asked Neta if she knows the real flamencos there. She said that she knows Juan de Juan and started to think. They both agreed that it looks like David Broza will be there mostly for catching a new audience that don't come to see flamenco much or at all. I didn't think about it before they said it and they probably right. But if it's true... I don't mind. Whatever pulls people to get to know flamenco.... By this time my friend made it clear that normally she does like David Broza, but she doesn't think he's the best choice for a thing like this

By the time... I'm already sure that I will be in the workshop (unless I'll die first), but I still need a ticket to the show. I love this festival! And once again - the main show makes curious. And now few weird things happened to me this time (already). I'm not sure it's the right place to tell about (few things behind the scene).

The festival and mess

So, in one Israel group of flamenco which made for Israelis in Facebook - there was a start of publishing who will take a part in the upcoming festival Días De Flamenco. As usual - at Suaznne Dellal in the mid March. It will take a part this time between 14-16 to March. The manager of the festival wrote what will be the main show. It will be an international premier to a new thing. Not all in the show are from Spain and known as flamenco artists, but... It will be a mix of a try between pure flamenco from Spain and a person who lived for a while in Spain and worked some for a while. It will be a new show of David Broza from Israel who has been in Spain but not known as a flamenco artist, and some pure flamencos from Spain - Juan De Juan, Niño Josele and El Piraña. I know that tickets will be able to get since February starts. When I will have all information in a normal way (hopefully as a flyer) - I promise to show it here. 

Although it did look to me weird that David Broza will be a main thing in this festival - it's clear he will try to make it flamenco because of the people who will share the stage with him. As far as I'm a flamenco lover from Tel Aviv who enjoy this festival, and as far as I think as Juan De Juan has a good chance to get into my "black list" of flamencos who I really love - I must go. I know it. I wrote as a comment that I'm sure it will be worth and asked about getting tickets. And what a drama.....

One girl (who I saw in the workshop on Thursday, she knows me but didn't give me attention all the time - probably the only one who did it) had to say some things of her own. The manager of the festival who deserve a lot of respect in my eyes for her work got a "wash". Under the eyes of many flamenco lovers in Israel that girl said how horrible it is. She won't come because it's disrespect to the audience. And me? Why am I so happy? Well, I'm happy cause even I was surprised it looks to me worth trying and the fact Juan De Juan will be there....

She wasn't happy. She had speeches how disrespect it is. The manager said (and she's right) that this show will be the thing this time if this girl wants it or not and she doesn't have to come if she doesn't wish to. And few more wrote comments. Some said like the manager and me - this is the thing this year, end of conversation. And even that David Broza isn't a pure flamenco - he worked in Spain, also with gipsies, and he made few records in Spain. And hey, he won't be alone there. One another who I know where it came to her (the studio she goes to) - said also it isn't good enough for her, and even last year when a great artist (Rocío Molina) came she and others in the studio she goes to didn't like it. Hey, even not Rocío Molina???? Are you crazy? She's amazing! And normally the workshops made for dancers. One guitar player asked if it will be possible to make a workshop of Niño Josele. If it will be - the manager of this festival is a queen. 

If I didn't like something about it - it was the comment of this girl who said it's disrespect as a start. And after that - the comment of the one who dared to say that Rocío Molina wasn't good enough for her. And probably the one who started this drama wrote in the group how sorry she is for it came to this point, but... And few more unkind things to say. She knows the best and she get disrespect for it. Yeah, right. Now we know how sorry you are for not all agree with you. 

By the way - the manager of this festival from the day it started till today is Eva Agmon. And yes, I do think she worth all the respect for her work in Días De Flamenco - this little/big festival

About the CD

So, I guess it's about time. I can write about the CD of Yael Horwitz. Her first CD which called Latido. As I said - it includes a bit of Hebrew in it. I'm glad it's only a small part cause it's a bit hard for me. It also has a song in French with flamenco music (a cover version to Ne Me Quitte Pas). It is nice to hear it on a buleria instead of a chanson although it isn't a new thing. Eva Duran made few years ago a cover version to one of the biggest hit of Edith Piaf. In the case of Eva Duran - it also has been traslated to Spanish, a thing that didn't happen here. Accept that - it sounds like a gipsy sings pure flamenco. In other words - I love most of it (whatever sounds gipsy), but few other things will take some time to get used. Two more covers in this CD that I have two different things to say about. Both are Israeli songs that I remember from my childhood. I don't hate those songs, but I never got crazy for them. One keeps it's name in Hebrew - At Li Laila. Well, in this version it sounds better to my ears, but I still need some time have an opinion how much it sounds better (it still don't comes natural to me). Other one has been translated to Spanish to the end. Yael has sang it in the show - one of the parts of hers with the solo guitar. It was one of the best parts in the show for my opinion (although NOT the only great part). In the show I understood it sounds familiar, but it took me some time to connect to the original version. Well, about this version I can say it makes a grace to the song. I just LOVE this version! In the translate to Spanish and flamenco it called Un Ramito De Violetas. The original version made by a musician most of the Israelis love - David Broza. In a short version to all - I love most of the CD, but few little parts are bit difficult to my ears (and maybe it's only my problem).
