Jesús Méndez was born in the heart of one of the most important cantaor families ever to come out of Jerez, that of Los Méndez, whose flagship was La Paquera de Jerez. His career began at the age of seventeen, when he decided to get up on stage and try his luck. Following his début in the year 2002 at the D. Antonio Chacón Cultural Association in Jerez, the young Jerez-born cantaor has worked with artists of the likes of Moraíto Chico, El Güito, Rocío Molina, Alejandro Granados, María del Mar Moreno and Carmen Cortés, among others.
In 2003, he carried off First Prize at the Cante Contest organized by the Peña Perro de Paterna in Jerez. The following year, he won the ‘Paquera de Jerez’ Bulería Award, organized by Jerez City Hall.
Beginning in 2004, he collaborates with Gerardo Núñez’s group, with whom he tours stages all over the world. He combines these international commitments with solo appearances at peñas and flamenco festivals. Later on, he joins the group of the show Jerez Puro, by María del Mar Moreno and Antonio Malena, premiered at Festival de Jerez 2005. At that same festival, he offers a solo performance accompanied on guitar by Diego del Morao.
In 2006 he joins ‘Gala de Andalucía’, the main show at Flamenco Festival USA and Flamenco Festival London, in which he accompanies bailaores Javier Barón, Merche Esmeralda, Manolo Marín, Rafael Campallo and Adela Campallo. The show toured the United States and Europe.
Throughout 2006, he gets his first album ready, produced by Gerardo Núñez. The cantaor – who stands out por martinetes, fandangos, soleares, seguiriyas and bulerías – also collaborates in the recording of an album by Pepe de Lucía.
Jesus latest CD (2012) release “Añoranza” features great guitarist such as Mauel Parrilla, Diego del Maora, Antonio Rey, Manuel Valencia and many others. Includes as special guest El Torta.
