Liebes Publikum,
wieder ist es soweit, das 5. Stuttgarter Flamenco Festival beginnt am 6. September 2014 unter der erstmaligen Schirmherrschaft des Spanischen Generalkonsulats mit „Amigos” im Theaterhaus Stuttgart. Hochrangige Flamencokünstler wie Javier Baron, Joaquin Ruiz und Miguel Angel, David Vazquez, Carmen Fernandez u.a. eröffnen ein tanzgewaltiges Festival in Stuttgart. Dieses Zusammentreffen in „Amigos“ ist eine Weltpremiere von drei herausragenden Tänzern, die den Flamenco nachhaltig geprägt und verändert haben. Ein Flamencoabend mit Seltenheitswert. Ein weiteres großes Ereignis ist am 10. September 2014 der Abend der „Flamenquitos“ im Theaterhaus. Die Flamencoszene aus dem Bundesgebiet, Italien, Österreich…zeigt sich in vielen Beiträgen. In der darauffolgenden Woche werden im Produktionszentrum Tanz und Performance Tanzkurse für wirkliche alle Niveaustufen angeboten. Vom Anfänger bis hin zu Profis gibt es die Möglichkeit, Klassen zu belegen. Die diesjährigen Dozenten der Klassen sind international gefragte Tänzer, die sich auf ihr Stuttgarter Publikum freuen und mit viel Geduld und Können ihren Unterricht gestalten. Jeder, der schon immer einmal mit Flamenco in Berührung kommen wollte, findet in dieser Woche Gesprächspartner, Tanz- oder Gitarrenunterricht, Fiestas und viel gute Stimmung. Im „PZ” können Sie die wunderschöne Atmosphäre des Flamenco genießen, Tanzkleidung bis hin zu Kostümen erwerben und mit vielen „Aficionados” zusammen beim Schorle oder Rioja die Kurse ausklingen lassen.

About tonight and tomorrow morning

Well, I did my best this week to write about all classes and rehearsal as fast as I could because of very simple reason. Tonight I will have my last class at the studio of Neta, probably the last at at all at her studio, tomorrow noon I will have the end of year show with her studio. I will need to spend all morning at Suzanne Dellal for it - the very last rehearsal with clothes, stage and lightning. 

I had so much this week and it isn't over yet. About tonight - it will wait. It will be too much. I'm about to make some beauty work for looking at my best tomorrow, so I won;t even have time to sleep a siesta before class tonight. Tomorrow morning I will have to get up early for having enough time to wake up, take my dog for his morning walk and still be on time for the rehearsal. That means that I should try to sleep a lot at night (doesn't mean I will sleep well). And as far as all of those stories takes me more time to write than it probably looks likes to the readers... Maybe it will be for the best I won't stay up tonight for those stories. The last class, last rehearsal and the show will wait for the weekend.

By this time = last two days I found out that will be some changes with who will come to see me at the show. My mother and one of her sisters meant to come. Now my aunt said that she won't be able to come, but one of my sisters said that she wants to come with her daughter (I don't know if her almost 4 years old daughter will be able to see all without freaking out, I hope she will). Still some tickets left, but not together, so one more ticket in another place at the audience. My friend that her husband takes photos said from the start that she won't attend to come. Twp more said "maybe" and I have no idea if they will come. One of them is a cousin of mine who took the photo down (Ilan and me after end of year show) last year, another one is a friend who I let her know Andreu. I knew why should I do it - they became friends. At start she said "maybe", after that because of Andreu she said that she would come for sure for seeing both of us on the same stage. I didn't hear from her since if she would come as she said or did she give up because of the war.

Till all stories will be written - I will still upload some information about shows and workshops, probably also some photos I will take tomorrow with Ilan with my camera or with his mobile phone

Solea at the studio of Mijal

I forgot my phone at home, but came on time. I received a happy way to get in. Mijal brought her little dog again. Looks like it's every week this way now. The dog ran to me and jumped on me for playing. After a little play I took her at my hands. She was thrilled and licked my face. I heard some music at class, sound live, sound like it's Ofir, but I didn't see him. I got up to the balcony with the dog at my hands. I couldn't take her off. She was leaning her head this way on my hands for I won't leave her and looked smiling. I noticed where Ofir was sitting. Yes, he was there - between Mijal and the office. Mijal noticed me. A girl who learn at this studio much more time than I do came up too. Mijal called her dog and asked her if she found me now. I said that I can't take her off, the dog doesn't want to leave my hands. The girl said she found a good place. Yeah, this girl has her thing to be nice. After a while the dog let me pull her down to the floor, but even then she control my bags, sitting at my bags or standing on it. Instead of changing - I was more busy playing with her. Until she found someone else to play with. 

There is another girl. Tall and thin. She was one day at the last workshop I took of Miguel. Even men's palo she do it like a woman who just look for attention. Miguel said "dance like men because this is farruca". No, she won't listen. She's taken the classes before mine for a long time. Now she takes also the classes of solea. Last week she got in the front of me, no matter where I was standing - I was behind her sweaty ass. I couldn't see anything accept her sweat. Again - Mijal said that in one thing solea is like farruca - all needed to be sharp in movement. No, she won't listen. She's in her thing. This time between classes she was talking with Ayelet about a show and some dances. At least this time when class has started she wasn't at the front of me again. 

It has started with the legs' part, an escobilla we still don't have in our solea but it probably will take a part. That was our warming. Moving on to learn some new steps for the solea. After learning some new - learning some other new steps. Some girls there weren't focused and had some weird questions. It came to the point that Mijal needed to say "every escobilla is a zapateado, but not every zapateado is an escobilla". At some point The nice one, I mean the first one stopped in the middle because of a blackout. We worked a lot on the new steps and made some practice on the second letea, a thing we learned at earlier classes. 

This class - the dog missed twice at the studio. Once was a moment after she went to Ofir for petting her. Some girls from the class after us started to come. One of them who need to shut her mouth and also came to the last workshop of Miguel held the dog too. 

What's the time?  Not much time, at least not enough for all the solea. Once again - second letra and the new steps. 

Coming back home, taking my dog for a walk, coming back again, getting into Facebook and get pissed. Neta... Like I don't enough reasons to take a brake from her next year, maybe forever from her studio... e had before a fight about photos that a friend of mine uploaded to Facebook. My friend's husband took some great photos from end of year show two years ago and she uploaded. Neta liked is as well, till her assistant said that Neta was the one who uploaded it and I said it isn't true, it was a friend of mine. Neta started to fight and didn't want those photos again. Although she could ask herself from my friend through Facebook - she did it through me. After most went down - Neta asked me to ask my friend to send her. My friend said that if she wants it - she should talk direct with her instead of sending me. Neta didn't accept. She didn't got the photos because of it, but I was close to lose my friend. Because of it we needed to pay for another photographer and a video maker. This year she was inviting them again after I asked for it. Again we needed to pay the same, but Neta said we're not many this time, so the tickets will make the rest of price. Great, so what happened to the money from tickets of last year? Saturday she said that there is not enough money, so we need to pay a bit more than double. Well, I saw how many will be this year. Maybe not all asked for the photography, but we're still many people. The snobbish woman and her daughter sold 19 tickets, still Neta said that not enough tickets has been sold... Once at class recently the Russian girl asked to do a virtual flyer and upload to Facebook for people will come. I know that all other studios do it, so it's nothing that the Russian girl made up. My friend said it won't fit cause it's for us. Neta was at this side, not through Facebook and not for anyone accept those we ask for. And at start she said we need to ask her what can we upload to Facebook. After that - even that we needed to bring some more money - now we are not allow to upload photos at all to the media. Seem like not even our own photos. It hurts privacy. Well,. she uploaded to Facebook photos of some of kids from the rehearsal (of course not her kids). She wrote that there are only few more tickets left. This is from the rehearsal. By the way - she have a new alegria that she's about to dance. All should come.... Great! Now I know she's just wants the money (if I was wondering for a moment something else). Now I know that I do the right thing by leaving her studio and I really don't care if it hurts her privacy if I will upload some photos of mine.

Fiona Malena Flamenco Ensemble presents their new Flamenco work “La Cueva”. Inspired by the fantastical landforms of Cappadocia, Turkey and the rich musical inspiration of that region, La Cueva is a imaginative and beautiful journey told through Flamenco.

The project of creating La Cueva began earlier this year, in the heart of an ancient region filled with rock pillars, fairy chimneys and 1,500 year old Byzantine caves.

Dancer/Artistic Director Fiona Malena, traveled with London based director Saulo Jamariqueli to the rock caves, where they shot sequences that form the creative direction behind this very personal and highly visual production.

In addition to dance, featured musicians include guitarist Álvaro Antona Villar (Spain), Ney flautist Esref Berk Tukoglu (Turkey), percussionist Mehmed Mert Baycan (Turkey), and award winning singer Juan Fariña (Spain), who has just released his new album and was nominated this year for one of the most prestigious awards in Flamenco (Flamenco Hoy).

The rehearsal at the studio of Neta

I'll try to remove some details. Too long anyway, too short time and not enough power... 

Because of the time it has started - I didn't have some time for siesta. So I did some other things which made a lot of mess. So I came running again at the last moment. Another girl who I never seen before came the same time. Someone was sitting there and was sure he needs to tell both of us where is the studio. Idiot. Paid fast for July, gave some more money for the photography..... Ilan looked shocked from the way I came. Neta's daughter said "hello" to me. I didn't know she even notice me before... The girls started to prepare and have some rehearsal. Till I was ready - Ilan, the Russian girl and the snobbish woman started to practice outside. I joined them. So hot there... After a while the snobbish woman gave up and got in for being at the air conditioner. We went on. Another girl came.  the Russian girl said hello to her. After a while she was talking with her about the rondeña. The girl asked if it was a rondeña. Yes.. She got in. The Russian girl who takes another class with a rondeña said that this girl was taking all year private classes and now she comes at the first time to dance with them. She suppose to dance it with them on stage. Ilan said that she will get F-.  We went on with the tangos. This girl came to try practice with us but it didn't work out very well to her. We went on till Neta called us in. All came accept the non clean one and the bata girl. Many girls I never seen before, some didn't look like girls that I wanna know. 

Looks like Ilan will be the star of this show. He told me something about a violin, but I saw there a cello for kids. For a start will be a part of saying some text by Lorca in Spanish and Hebrew, a moment after a mess. Ilan and another man will do it. A long practice on it. At the moment it over - Neta will get in, the other man will go. Ilan and Neta will dance a part of Carmen - at the way they did few years ago at the Israeli opera. Neta found out that she forgot her castanets. Who can give her a pair? My friend gave her, but something didn't fit Neta. My friend sent her to Ilan. Neta moved next to me, I offered her mine, but she didn't want even to try it. She took Ilan's. There was no need much to practice it, maybe accept the way it ends. A kid need to push them for they won't "fight". And she goes to play the cello. Andreu will play his guitar and some of the little girls dance. We went on with the rehearsal. The entrance changes a bit. All of us need to get something to stage after the cello part and stay on stage till end. I will need to get in with a table. By this time I noticed that the girl of private classes is a girl I saw before in the start of year and thought she's a wicked witch from my neighborhood. I was wrong. It's someone else. I was ready with my castanets. Neta didn't like it cause I was holding it too much and we've been asked to do palmas, no matter if we know the palo or not. 

A long rehearsal. Because of Ilan had another part with the other man - one practice on it. The little girls needed to go, so many things has been remove from the rehersal itself and giving the stage to the girls again. Again - no tangos or siguiryia. The little girls girls went away. We almost finished without it - the bata girl and the non clean one came and mentioned the hour. Never mind we were talking it will be different this time. Not much after I took a brake for my own. I felt like I will make a puddle in the middle of the studio if I won't take this brake... Fast as I could. 

One more hour for studio. Only us stayed there - Neta, Andrue and the group of tangos and siguiryia. We made it like it will be in the show. Siguiryia first. Neta didn't like that some of the girls weren't ready for it. Although all things that happened to me with her - she was right about it. She gave us pieces of papers with the order of show for we could see and be ready for it. Some needed to take their castanets. We made the siguiryia. It wasn't horrible. We moved to the tangos. Not bad. At the solos - the Russian girl has been asked to dance first. She didn't want cause she doesn't want to do so on stage. Neta demanded her to try now, Ilan started with jaleo for pushing her to accept it. She made a try. I made third. It felt well. When some made - Neta was wearing a red bata with white points. I never saw this bata before and I have one thing to say about it - very elegant. Not even a start of  cynicism. Whe the bata girl danced - it looked like I was the only one who made her jaleo. Neta made a thing of her own with the red bata. We needed to sing, she called us, and.... My friend said that we didn't work yet on this part. I remind her that not all danced yet. I remembered the snobbish woman. My friend remind that she didn't dance yet. Neta said she's sorry, it meant to be after all of us dance and she was sure we did. They danced. Neta made her part again and called us. We worked on a salida.  Neta said that it's difficult to dance the tangos with the bata, but she will be with the bata anyway. 

After that Neta asked us to go, she needs to work on the alegria with Andreu. I made a try to talk with Ilan, but he siad it isn't the time. He looked a bit on the alegria. After that at the dressing room he took some videos of some steps from the siguiryia. The non clean one showed him. 

Later on - Neta showed a bit her red bata de cola. It's new, she danced with it for the first or second time at all this evening. At the way out Ilan was busy - a bit was talking with Andrue, a bit was busy looking at photos I took few hours before and still were on my camera. He was amazed from my photos. He said that photography is my way to speak out. I asked him if I didn't dance well that evening. He said I did, but... Everyone has something that they are good at and another thing that they do even better. My dancing is good, but my photography is better. Sweet. At the street after a minute or two - the assistant started to shout that there was an interception. She was pointing at the sky. None of us saw or heard anything. After Ilan said that she probably saw a falling star - we heard an interception. She said that was an alarm. Later on I heard it meant for another place

Almost 4 hours

OK, so last night I got back writing after the class. I'm having a busy week - two classes at the studio of Mijal, one class at the studio of Neta, one long rehearsal at the studio Neta, one show....

So, here I am after the rehearsal. I want to write, I need to write, I have many details, but... After almost 4 hours at the studio, running there and back, one alarm at night, non sleeping in general, so many details... I need to take some rest. Stories will come tomorrow. I can't think normal, not for my head. I have no problem to upload some more flamenco photos and information, but about the long, intensive and crazy rehearsal - I will make all my best to write tomorrow

This week's Clasico Español

Well, it's about to be a busy week, so although I wanna sleep... Maybe it's for the best I'll start telling. 

This time I came almost at the last moment to the class at the studio of Mijal. Not my fault this time... When I came - a girl who I don't know came. I opened the gate for the erntrance path. She came in after me. I got into the studio. She got in after me. I got up to the balcony. She came up after me. Ilan was sitting there at the end of stairs with the girl from men's class. I signed him that I'm about to kill. He asked what happened. To block my way? He let me in. They went away. I went to the loo. While changing the girl who was following me said it's a luck that I came, that was her way to get in. I asked her if she came for a trail class. She said that she did. We made an introduce.  I went down and went out to talk with Ilan. It was difficult. The new girl came down after me and almost came out as well. Ilan was still talking, till I almost could talk - the nice one came and hugged with him. Mijal came out and hugged with him too. Oh, she's in a middle of a conversation, so... We got in. I asked him if next year he could bring me my copy of photography and video. He said that he could. In case he won't go on - my friend would bting him a copy, so he could ask her to bring me one too. Oh, don't you go on with Neta? He said that he isn't sure yet about next year. The nice one of Neta's studio came, I wondered how did it come that not even hello... The new one asked me about the time of this class. Mijal came in. As dar as the new one just found out it's about Clasico Español - she didn't come with castanets. I'm not sure if she ever played on castanets. Mijal brought her a couple and we started the class. 

We made some drills for the castanets. Most were what we always do, but we had also a new one. After that we started to practice the steps we learned at the last two weeks. The new one started to look confuse. I wondered if I should tell her to relax cause we already worked on it before. I decided that I shouldn't for she won't feel dependent on me. And try a little faster. I almost got confuse. Nijal prepared a computer for having the music for the Clasico Español's dance. Till the computer was ready - Mijal was teaching us some new steps. The part we learned so far isn't much, but I like it already. I have a feeling it's about to be a beautiful dance. The computer was ready. Mijal started to work on it. A big noise and a start of news. Accept Mijal - the professional dancers held their ears between their hands. I started to walk back few steps. The war outside still didn't over. Some problems with a terror tunnel. And some music in a normal volume. What a difference.... The new one was back in the corner. The music was so fast till in the first trial I made some mistakes. Second time was easier, but it was still difficult because of speed. And no, this time we didn't do it in couples.

At some point - one of the men of Mijal's company came, changed and went out to practice.  

Taking our castanets again. We've been asked to dance sevillanas with it. I never danced sevillanas with castanets, and even last time I danced sevillanas at all was too long ago. Some looked from the side. Some of us made a try in the front of the mirror. I made a try. I looked at Ilan for the memory of steps. I made a something with the castanets, but I'm not sure it was correct.  We made the first and second. Taking off the castanets.

We moved on to the buleria. We made a practice on the last steps. And dancing all with music. The new one learned the new steps, but accept that she mostly looked at us dancing. My friend came. She looked mostly at Ilan. After a while she was looking at me. I started to make some mistakes. She smiled. I was sure she noticed. Dancing all over. The men of Mijal's company joined us. The nice one of Neta's studio asked me for the time. Mijal was sure that she ask her something. Dancing all over.

After class hello to the man. I told my friend that it's only because she was looking at me. What happened? No, she didn't notice my mistakes. The man from Mijal's company brought some flyers for a show he will take a part at. Yeah, I already have the virtual version and I started publishing it (maybe I should publish it again). Ilan was worried that I will get a copy of the flyer. I was talking with my friend till their class has started.
